Earth-Space AI Research (ESAIR) Lab

The ESAIR Lab is an interdisciplinary research group at the intersection of artificial intelligence and physics. Our mission is to advance space-weather preparedness through innovative data-driven science. We develop large-scale data pipelines and AI/ML algorithms to address critical questions in solar and space physics, with research areas including:

building reliable AI/ML tools for classification, detection, and analysis of solar events,
designing novel evaluation methods to reflect true performance of AI/ML algorithms, and
processing millions of solar images to study the long-term behavior of solar activity.

We appreciate the collaboration of the scientists at the National Solar Observatory, who are directly involved in the progress of our research.

Many of our research activities utilize GONG data obtained by the NSO Integrated Synoptic Program, managed by the National Solar Observatory, which is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), Inc. under a cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation and with contribution from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
